What is Life Like at School Year Abroad?
Life at School Year Abroad is exciting, immersive, and experiential. Some aspects of SYA will be different than your home school -- like field study, where you take your classwork into the real world. Or living with a host family, which will become your second family and home base during your time abroad. SYA staff will be there to support you through every part of your SYA experience!
Other parts of your SYA experience will be similar to life at home. You will make new best friends, participate in extracurricular activities you are passionate about, and take English and Math classes in English.

FIELD Study
Through field study, students get outside of the classroom, explore the language and culture around them and take ownership over their education with the support of their academic advisor.
Academics
Academics at SYA are rigorous, experiential, and personal. Our curriculum challenges students to become independent, international thinkers and makes them stand out in the competitive college application process.
Extracurriculars
SYA believes strongly that total immersion in the language and culture includes involvement in extracurricular activities. Students are able connect with their new community through activities.
Host Families
There is no typical SYA host family. What they all have in common is the motivation to embrace an American teenager fully into their lives.
TRAVEL
Travel provides opportunities for engagement in your host country. You'll experience new places not as a tourist, but as a resident of your new home.
