Adieu Paris, bonjour Moscou et Beijing
This could be the title of the new movie released in all theaters in Mali, Burkina Faso and Chad in the months to come. For the past few years, France has been confronted to an unprecedented wave of anger and resentment in its former colonies in West Africa. Mali is even accusing France of supporting the jihadists instead of fighting them and has formally asked for the U.N Council of security to meet in order to discuss the issue. Russia and China are not only watching the situation with great interest, they have already moved in and are now offering their political and economical support to these countries. What is exactly happening in West Africa and why is France facing this situation today? This webinar will try to answer some of the questions and initiate a discussion of the possible outcome of the situation.
Conversational skills in French are recommended for this class.
