Who Gives to the SYA Fund?
Each year, the SYA community of alumni, parents and friends support our distinctive mission by giving to the SYA Fund. The Board of Trustees, Philanthropy Council, Resident Directors and home office staff also participate in the SYA Fund.
What does my SYA Fund gift support?
In an average year, tuition covers approximately 85% of SYA's expenses. We rely on the generosity of our community to provide the remaining funds needed to run our campuses.
What do these expenses include? Just about everything!
The SYA Fund supports travel experiences, fieldwork, extracurriculars, teachers, host families, student aid, campus maintenance and so much more. Without it, we simply could not provide the exceptional study abroad experience SYA is known for.
Why is participation so important?
Your gift to the SYA Fund demonstrates your support for our mission and the unique educational experience we offer. It directly benefits current students and inspires further philanthropic support from alumni, parents, and friends.
How much should I give?
We know that each member of our community has different means. Your participation is what matters. Every gift to SYA, no matter how large or small, is significant and appreciated. Consider making a gift of an amount that is meaningful to you.
In any given year, gifts to the SYA Fund have ranged from $1 to $60,000.
What is a matching gift?
Many companies will match charitable contributions 1:1 (or more) made by their employees, retirees and directors to non-profit organizations. This allows a company to support worthy causes while employees are able to maximize their financial support to SYA. Please check with your human resources department and/or payroll administrator to see if your company will match your gift. It usually takes only a few minutes to complete the form, and can often be done online.
Are my gifts tax-deductible?
Yes! SYA is a non-profit organization with tax ID 04-2589375. Donations are tax-deductible to the fullest extent provided by law.
Why is participation so important?
Like almost all independent schools, tuition at SYA does not fully cover the cost of a student’s educational experience. Your gift to the SYA Fund helps keep tuition as low as possible while providing current students with the educational resources they need to be successful abroad. SYA strives to attract students from varying socioeconomic backgrounds. The SYA Fund helps keep SYA a feasible option for a diverse student population.
