For Teachers
Why send your students to SYA?
In vibrant language classrooms, you aim to bring meaning to your students' language study. Studying at SYA and living with a host family naturally brings their language acquisition to life. Sending your students to SYA will transform not only their linguistic skills, but also their curiosity and respect for another culture, their interest in the learning process, and their confidence as they explore beyond American borders. The impact of this place-based, experiential learning is a deeper understanding of what they're learning and why it matters.
Why send your students to SYA?
- SYA classes are experiential.
- Small class sizes make learning personal and engaging.
- Students growth occurs outside the traditional classroom, and often enhances their overall performance when they return home.
- Their insights deepen classroom discussions, encourage empathy, and inspire classmates to think beyond their own communities.
- Study abroad helps students develop the qualities that matter most in an interconnected world: cultural understanding, empathy, resilience, curiosity, and the confidence to engage with people and ideas different from their own.
- Students gain self-awareness and self-confidence, skills they will take home after SYA.
- SYA students also take courses required for graduation.
- SYA will enhance their college applications.
