Successful applicants allow their authentic voice to shine through in the application process. We intentionally aim to create diverse classes full of students who all bring a unique perspective to our small communities.  Our team also looks for students who can demonstrate a passion for learning the language and a genuine interest in exploring new cultures.

The SYA application is hosted on Blackbuad, under the mySYA Portal. You will need to create an account in the mySYA Portal in order to start your SYA application.

Students must submit the “Student Information Form" in the mySYA portal to be assigned an interviewer. Member School students will be interviewed on campus, while all other students will be interviewed by an alum or an SYA admissions team member. 

Yes! SYA offers both merit and need-based financial aid. You can learn more about our tuition and scholarships here.

SYA accepts applications from rising high school sophomores, juniors and seniors for our year long academic program. For our semester programs, juniors and sophomores are eligible to apply to fall and spring. Seniors are only allowed to apply to the fall semester.

Students applying to SYA Spain and SYA France need to have taken two years (or be in/above Level Two) of the target language. Students applying to SYA Italy do not need to have taken Italian, but they do need to have taken two years of a foreign language. 

We do NOT expect students to be fluent before they arrive at SYA! We are here to help you learn the language through our immersive experience. Learn more about our academics here. 

Roughly two-thirds of our students come from independent high schools, including some of the most competitive institutions in the country. Others join us from public or charter high schools.

Yes. We are a fully accredited high school. If your sending school has any questions, please refer them to our course catalog.

Each  SYA campus has between 50 and 60 students. We do not publish acceptance rates since they vary significantly by year and program. 

We encourage all interested students to apply. We believe that thoughtfully completing the application on time is a great indication of a student’s motivation and commitment to SYA.
