At School Year Abroad Italy, you'll explore the ancient land

of the Etruscans. Enjoy long meals with your SYA Italy host family. Paint with local artists in the medieval quarter of San Pellegrino. Lose yourself in the Roman ruins. Relish the opportunity to absorb Italian language and culture in the cradle of Western civilization. Directly across the street from our SYA Italy school, SYA students can indulge in a delicious
cappuccino before or after school; and one block to the left of the
school’s doors lies Piazza del Plebescito, Viterbo’s main square, where
SYA students can be seen mingling with local students for an impromptu
jam session on a borrowed guitar or joining a pickup soccer game. Thanks
to the central location of our campus, our students have Viterbo and
all that it offers at their fingertips.
SYA Italy offers a unique approach to

understanding the culture of modern Italy through the lens of its deep and multi-layered past. Both inside and outside the classroom, SYA Italy actively engages students in the study of ancient languages, history and art, while facilitating the mastery of Italian. On school trips, which have included journeys to Sicily, Florence, Umbria and Campania in the past, SYA students are given the opportunity to experience firsthand some of Western civilization’s most important cultural, historical and archaeological sites.
